Ronald LeVine testifies before NJ Legislature
NJ outlawed Debt Settlement Services many years ago (1979) realizing that the practice is inherently abusive, while allowing certain limited exceptions. You may have seen ads by the settle–your-debt folks, but they are all located outside of NJ and prohibited to sell to NJ residents. Well, the industry made its latest run to change the Law, introducing a bill in the NJ Legislature, A-1739. Testifying to support the NJ State Bar Association’s position on Sept 15, I was able to explain the risks to NJ consumers that the industry-supported changes would inevitably bring. Call or email our office for a copy of my written submission. You may want to write to your NJ State Legislators to give your opinion on this bill.
